PV Sindhu ready for the challenge against Tai Tzu Ying in the BWF World Championships quarterfinals

Defending champion PV Sindhu believes that things won’t be easy for her when she faces Chinese Taipei Tai Tzu Ying in the quarter-final of BWF World Championships 2021 on Friday in Huelva, Spain. The double Olympics medalist defeated 9th seed Pornpawee Chochuwong in straight games to progress to the quarterfinals where she will face Tai Tzy Ying.

Sindhu has a tough outing against the star shuttler from Chinese Taipei. Even her record against Tai is poor on tour, in 19 meetings, Sindhu has managed to win only five. The Indian has lost her last four matches against Tai with the last win coming back in 2019 World Championships.

However, Tai’s qualification to the quarterfinals was not an easy one as she fought her way through Scotland’s Kristy Gilmour in a 3 game intense clash. Tai eventually defeated Gilmour 21-10, 19-21, 21-11.

Tai’s primary skill is her deception. It is an area where other shuttlers have not found any way to fight back and Sindhu is no different. However, the Indian shuttler believes that if she puts her best foot forward then there is a chance of her going through Tai Tzu Ying.

“Well, tomorrow is against Tai. We are playing again now after Olympics. I just want to give my best, no matter what. It’s not going to be an easy match, I need to be prepared for a long rally and a big match. So from my side, I will give my 100%,” Sindhu told the BWF.

Sindhu will be looking to end her drought that has lasted for a couple of years now. The Indian shuttler met Tai at the Olympics in Tokyo where again the Indian struggled and had to settle for the Bronze medal. Overall the last couple of years has not been great for Sindhu with injuries and inconsistent form. But her ability to step up right before the big events makes her a trailblazer in badminton.

Sindhu was asked about the same as he said, “Well yeah, people keep telling me that. I take it as a positive thing and just hope that it works every single time. No, just joking. I honestly don’t know… I just don’t know how I play at times like this. But it’s good to be on the winning side at the big events.”
