Talented Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen aims to win a medal at the Paris Olympics

India’s brightest badminton prospect Lakshya Sen has already proved his mettle against some of the greats in the sport. He became the fourth Indian to win a medal at the BWF World Championships as he won the bronze medal at the World Championship held in Huelva, Spain.

The youngster has received several honours and felicitations since his bronze medal win but he has no intentions to right now. The 20-year-old mentioned that he is looking to focus on future events in his interview with Khel Now.

Lakshya Sen explained how badminton runs through his family and how his father had influence on him while growing up. “My father is a coach and my grandfather used to play so I picked up the sport after watching them from an early age. My elder brother also plays badminton, and the influence from my home has been big,” he said.

“The support has been great since my childhood. Since my father is a coach, he knew what are the requirements of a player and mother was also very supportive. They did not pressurize me into studies a lot,” Sen revealed.

The youngster had a tremendous campaign at the BWF World Championship. However his dream run was halted by compatriot Srikant Kidambi in the semifinals. The youngster highlighted how he was taking one match at a time.

“Since it was my first time playing in the World Championships, it was a new experience and the pressure was less. Before the tournament began, the idea was to win the whole thing. But then, we were taking it one match at a time. Although I was disappointed after the result, it was a proud feeling to win the medal,” the shuttler added.

The youngster was very disappointed on missing out on a spot at the Tokyo Olympics. However he is finding some solace by winning the Bronze medal. Lakshya Sen is now prepared for the new year and it will bring several challenges for the young shuttler. He highlighted how his aim is to win a medal at the Paris Olympics.

I am targeting medals at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. I am trying to get as much experience as possible before the upcoming Olympics,” he revealed.

“My ultimate target is to win a medal at the Paris Olympics,” he concluded.
