Los Angeles had added the services of Russell Westbrook to their roster to support the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Carmelo Anthony. The Lakers had entered the season with high expectations as they have the players who have the skills to take them all the way in the tourney.
However, barring a few performances, Westbrook hasn’t been able to stand tall to the challenges of the team. With LeBron James missing some matches due to injury, the onus of carrying the team has increased on experienced players like Westbrook, Anthony Davis, and Carmelo Anthony.
ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins reckons that Russell Westbrook is not doing a great job of running the team and feels he needs to turn the tables.
“He was brought to LA for one reason and one reason only and that’s to win the championship. Forget the missed shots, him at the point guard position, he’s not doing a great job of running the team.”
In his last four matches before the match against Charlotte Hornets, the 32-year-old had averaged 20.5 points per game while only shooting 38.0% from the field.
Meanwhile, Westbrook scored 17 points in the 41 minutes he played against Charlotte Hornets on Monday as LA Lakers won 126-123 in OT. Anthony Davis was the star of the show as he scored 32 points whereas veteran player Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points to help the team break their two-match losing streak.
There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook will need to pull up his socks and come up with a better show for the Lakers as they are missing the services of LeBron James due to abdominal strain.
The LA Lakers will next face Miami Heat on Wednesday and they will look to continue their winning momentum.
