Luka Doncic has been the cynosure of all eyes since he has started playing in the NBA. Doncic was awarded the rookie of the season in 2018-19 and since then he has taken giant strides in the league. The youngster also broke many records in the previous season.
However, it has not been a pleasant start of the season for the Slovenian as he is yet to achieve his best. Dallas Mavericks rely heavily on the shoulders of their talisman but the team has only won a solitary contest out of the four matches they have played.
It was a short off-season and many of the pundits have questioned Doncic’s fitness. The prodigy player himself admitted that his legs are really tired but stated it is not an excuse.
Doncic spoke to the press after the Dallas Mavericks lost to Charlotte Hornets by 118-99. LaMelo Ball top scored for the Hornets as he racked up 22 points whereas Tim Hardaway Jr scored 18 points for the Mavericks. However, Doncic could only score 12 points in the match as he did not play at the top of his game.
Doncic said, “I just think my legs are really tired, but it’s not an excuse.”
The off-season was only for 77 days and it hasn’t allowed a lot of players to recharge their batteries. Doncic hasn’t looked like himself in the first few matches that he has played. The 21-year old has looked a bit slow on the court and his defense is also not up to the mark.
Doncic will look to lift his game in the upcoming matches as Mavericks rely heavily on their linchpin. The Dallas Mavericks will next face Miami Heat on the 2nd of January.
