Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has signed a one-year, $62.6 million extension with the team ahead of the new season of the NBA, the side announced on Thursday.
The extension is worth $62.6 million, his agent, Jeff Austin of Octagon, told ESPN and thus the new deal will keep Curry with the Dubs through the 2026-27 season.
Curry will become the fourth NBA player, along with LeBron James, Paul George, and Kevin Durant, to pass $500 million in career earnings.
Curry had two years left on the four-year, $215.4 million contract, which he signed in August 2021. Earlier, Curry had said he wants to remain a Warrior for life.
“I’ve always said I want to be a Warrior for life,” Curry told Andscape in July. “At this stage in my career, I feel like that’s possible.”
However, he wants to be part of a competitive team. “If it is a situation where you’re a bottom-feeder and it’s just because you want to stay there, I’d have a hard time with that. But I don’t think that’s going to be the reality.”
In 2023-24, which was Curry’s 15th season in the NBA, he averaged 26.4 points on 40.8% 3-point shooting, 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Curry, who is a four-time NBA champion with the Warriors, recently won the Gold medal in the Paris Olympics for Team USA.
Steph Curry, who scored 36 points against Serbia in the semifinal, added 24 points in the gold medal match against France, including eight three-pointers. The Golden State Warriors star averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.7 steals per game at the Games.
Warriors will begin their NBA 2024-25 campaign against Portland Trail Blazers.
