Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas reckons Kevin Durant’s move to the Golden State Warriors helped Steph Curry in winning two NBA championships. Arenas reckons Curry would have found it difficult to beat LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers if Durant had not been part of his team.
Meanwhile, Durant played three seasons for the Golden State Warriors from 2016-17 to 2018-19 and averaged more than 25 points in each of the three editions. Thus, he played a key role in taking the Dubs to glory in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
“They [Golden State Warriors] are the 73-9 team. Everybody put the narrative on KD for saying yes and not the Golden State Warriors for going out and getting a bazooka. Your guns weren’t big enough to beat LeBron James, that you got to go out & get a bazooka.”
After his exit from the Dubs, Durant went on to play for OKC Thunder and Brooklyn Nets. Back in 2022, Durant revealed he wanted to play ball somewhere else in an interview with the Washington Post.
“I just wanted to play ball somewhere else. But a lot of people see it as I’m chasing something. And I think it probably stems from when I said, ‘I don’t want to be number two anymore.’ I was number two in high school, in the draft. But what I had to explain to people was, I had just lost in the Finals. I wanted to go back and win the Finals. It wasn’t about: ‘I want to be the best ever. I want to be better than LeBron or [Michael Jordan].’ I don’t give a s**t about that.”
Meanwhile, Durant averaged 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22.2 minutes per game in the Olympics whereas Curry averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.7 steals per game at the Games.
