Chennai Super Kings have had a nightmare of a season in IPL 2022. They have won only two of their matches so far, and a second from bottom. Synonymous with success, it has been very difficult for CSK fans to swallow this bitter pill.
Going into the season, there was plenty of optimism following CSK’s acquisitions in the mega auction. They managed to retain most of the squad that helped them become champions for the fourth time in IPL 2021. However, it’s safe to say that things have gone south for them completely.
One of the key reasons that several experts and commentators have highlighted is the fact that Chennai Super Kings are under new leadership this season. Shocking the world, MS Dhoni decided to hand over the captaincy to his teammate Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of IPL 2022. One of the greatest captains of all time, Dhoni had been in charge of CSK since the inaugural edition in 2008.
The fact that Chennai Super Kings are second from bottom in the IPL table eight matches into the season under left-handed allrounder being extremely underwhelming, suggests that that might not have been a great move.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, former cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra reflected on Chennai Super Kings loss to Punjab kings last night. He also discussed Ravindra Jadeja’s handling of their bowling resources.
“I am feeling that Jaddu is reeling under the pressure of captaincy. Dwayne Bravo did pick up wickets but Pretorius conceded 50 runs. I was thinking – Mitchell Santner conceded only eight runs in two overs. Why did you not get him to bowl, you gave him only two overs.”
The former Kolkata Knight Riders cricket are also raised. The questions regarding Jaddu deciding to undergo himself. The left hander has also endured a horrific time with a bat in the middle.
“Pretorius gave 50 and you got him to bowl his full quota of four overs. Jaddu himself bowls just two overs. Agree there were left-handers at the ground but you can bowl left-arm spin to lefties.”
“Jaddu’s bat is not hitting the ball, neither against Mumbai nor here. Ravindra Jadeja scored 21 runs off 16 balls, which included a six off the second-last ball of the last over. The game was done and dusted. Till the time the six was not hit, he was run-a-ball 14 runs.”
