Aakash Chopra lauds Shubman Gill’s century in ENG vs IND 2025 4th Test

Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has showered praise on captain Shubman Gill for continuing his rich form in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar series. After three low scores of 16, 6, and 12, Gill scored a crucial knock of 103 runs off 238 balls against England in the second innings of the fourth Test match at Old Trafford.

Ergo, the Indian captain played a key role in helping India draw the fourth Test. Gill added a crucial alliance of 188 runs with opener KL Rahul after India was reduced to 0-2. England had taken a huge lead of 311 runs and thus that partnership was imperative for the visitors.

Gill has been in incredible form as he has aggregated 722 runs in four Test matches against England at an average of 90.25.

“I will talk about Shubman first because he has scored a century whenever he has gone beyond 20. That’s the truth of this series. The way he is batting, records are tumbling. He has been very, very good. We had discussed yesterday that this match could go towards a draw if Gill and Rahul batted long together, and he did that,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

Chopra noted that Gill played a loose shot after reaching his hundred, as he could have left that ball.

“He scored a century. He played a slightly loose shot after his century. It was an away-going delivery, he got an edge and got out. However, this series will be remembered for Shubman Gill, the arrival, the domination, and the determination of Gill,” he added.

Before the ongoing series, Gill was averaging 35 in Test cricket whereas his average dropped to 25 while playing outside Asia. However, Gill has batted at his absolute best in the ongoing series and has taken his overall Test average past 40.

“Shubman Gill, the batter, has arrived in Test cricket. We knew that Shubman Gill has that class, but that class needed validation. A stamp is needed, and he has put that stamp. I am delighted,” he said.
