Asia Cup 2022: Arshdeep Singh is a very confident lad, that is why he is here: Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was full of praise for Arshdeep Singh, who has impressed one and all with his death bowling. Sharma said that Singh is a very confident lad and that is why he is in the team. Arshdeep had seven runs to defend against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the two Super Four contests and he made life difficult for the opposition batters.

The left-arm pacer was accurate in his length and he was able to take the match deep despite not having many runs in the bank. Singh conceded 40 runs in the 3.5 overs he bowled against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium but he bowled better than what his bowling figures suggest, especially the last five balls he bowled.

The 23-year-old is quite young in his International career but he has confidence in his abilities to deliver the goods in crunch situations. Singh has scalped 13 wickets in 10 T20I matches so far and he has bowled with an impressive economy rate of 7.6.

In fact, Singh had dropped Asif Ali’s catch against Pakistan but he was able to bounce back stronger with the ball and he was spot on in his execution.

“Yes, he [Arshdeep] himself was disappointed, but then again if you saw his confidence in the final over [in the Pakistan game], he nailed the yorker well and he got Ali [Asif] out [eventually]. If he was not mentally there, the execution would not have happened, but in his case, he ran to his place and took the ball. Today also I thought he bowled pretty well in the last two overs,” said Sharma in the post-match press conference.

“He is a very confident lad, and that is why he is here, ahead of lot of players who are sitting at their homes. He is a very confident lad and I have not seen many like him early in his career. As a captain and a coach we are very happy with how he takes his game and goes about his business with the ball,” said Sharma.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh was heavily trolled and criticized on social media after he gave one more life to Asif Ali at a crucial junction of the game. However, former players like Sachin Tendulkar and Wasim Akram backed the youngster to come good in the future.
The youngster has shown the right temperament and the skills to go a long way in his career. Singh is expected to get better with experience and one feels he is going to be an asset to the team.
