India batter Robin Uthappa reckons India are trying too many things and trying to fix something that is not broken. Team India has been experimenting a lot in the recent past and they have given ample opportunities to young players in the absence of main players, who have been mostly rested.
The batting order hasn’t looked settled as there has been a lot of chop and change, which hasn’t helped the team. As the players haven’t played together recently, the chemistry between them also seems to be missing.
India is on the brink of elimination in the Asia Cup and will need other results to go their way in order to make it to the final of the tournament. Uthappa feels India is making too many changes in the team, which is not helping them.
Robin Uthappa said on ESPN Cricinfo, “India is trying too many things, trying to fix something that is not broken. They have overthought this. Be as aggressive as you want, but if you do not have wickets at the back end, you are always going to be under the pump.”
On the other hand, top-order batter Cheteshwar Pujara feels Dinesh Karthik should have played ahead of Rishabh Pant against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super Four stage. Karthik played against Pakistan in the Group stage but faced only one delivery while didn’t get to bat against Hong Kong.
As Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury, India gave the nod to Rishabh Pant ahead of Dinesh Karthik as they wanted a left-hander in the playing XI.
“I think India could have played Dinesh Karthik because he played the first game and they should have continued with him as the finisher. The only reason everyone is talking about is that they needed a left-handed batter.”
India hasn’t been able to close the two matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka and now finds itself in a tricky situation in the tournament. Men in Blue will face Afghanistan on Thursday.
