Former Indian opener Harbhajan Singh feels there is nothing wrong with Shubman Gill’s technique. Gill had failed to deliver in the high-octane clash against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele on Saturday.
The Indian opener never looked comfortable at the crease as he meandered to 10 runs off 32 balls before his struggle was ended by Haris Rauf with an incoming delivery. In fact, Gill has been in terrific form in 2023 but he looked circumspect against the quality seam bowling attack of Pakistan.
“I think this is because of too much cricket. He has been playing for quite a while now. He had a great IPL. Every player needs some rest because IPL is a very demanding tournament. You go to travel and also play every second day. I feel he just needs a bit of break. He’s a quality player and that there’s no doubt about that,” said Harbhajan while speaking to India Today.
Before the Asia Cup, Gill scored 750 runs in 12 ODI matches at an average of 68.18 and a strike rate of 109.01 in 2023. Furthermore, he had a terrific run in the IPL for Gujarat Titans, top-scoring with 890 runs in 17 matches for the Hardik Pandya-led team. The Turbanator added Gill looked a bit low on confidence during his knock against Pakistan.
“He will come back to form and start scoring runs. I believe there’s nothing wrong with his technique and they way he’s batting. But it’s just that his confidence is a bit low and I’m sure if he gives himself a bit more time, he’s going to come good,” Harbhajan added.
Meanwhile, India’s match against Pakistan was called off due to rain. India will next face Nepal at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on Monday.
