The Indian team will return to International action after March as they will lock horns against Australia in the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Most of the Indian players had recently got back into action in the recently concluded IPL and they will be looking to give their best in the upcoming series against Australia.
India will need to cope up with a major blow as their limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is ruled out of the white-ball series. Consequently, the onus will be on captain Virat Kohli to give a good start to his team.
Kohli will also head back to India after the first Test match to be with his wife for the birth of his first child. Thus, India will have big shoes to fill in the last three Test matches. Furthermore, it is reported by ESPN Cricinfo that Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma have been ruled out from the first two Test matches.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli is on the cusp of breaking MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Kohli has led the Indian team to 11 wins out of 17 matches in the ODI format against Australia and he is three more wins away from equalling MS Dhoni’s record, who led the team to 14 wins versus Australia in 21 matches.
Kohli has the most impressive winning percentage among all the Indian captains while leading the team against Australia as he has won 64.70% of his matches. Consequently, if India whitewash Australia 3-0 in the upcoming ODI series, then Kohli will match Dhoni’s number of wins against Australia.
On the other side, Kohli, the batsman, has a chance of leapfrogging Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Sachin enjoyed batting against the Australians as he scored 3077 in 71 matches, including nine centuries in the ODI format.
Virat Kohli has also savoured great success while batting against the Men in Yellow as he has amassed 1910 runs in 40 ODI matches with the help of eight centuries. Thus, Kohli is two centuries away from overtaking Sachin’s record.
The first ODI between Australia and India will take place at SCG on November 27.
