Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has opined that there was no spine seen in Bangladesh’s batting. The Tigers were skittled out for 150 runs after India posted a par score of 404 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chhatogram.
Bangladesh was reduced to 133-8 on Day 2 and they could only add 17 more runs on the third day morning. Thus, India have a first-innings lead of 254 runs and KL Rahul decided not to enforce the follow-on.
Meanwhile, the home team batters could not show their stomach for the fight. Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 28 runs for the Tigers but none of the batters could even go past the 30-run mark. Kuldeep Yadav was the chief destroyer of the Bangladesh innings as he scalped a five-wicket haul, which is his third in Test matches.
Mohammed Siraj took three wickets whereas Umesh Yadav and Axar Patel took one wicket each.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “”The spine was not seen in the batting at all. The opposition team has done ordinary batting.
“Bangladesh, as good as they have been in the ODIs, when they will look back at this match, they will say that Rohit [Sharma], Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja] and [Jasprit] Bumrah were not there and despite that, you are not even able to compete.”
Chopra added that India would look to finish off the game in four days as they are in a dominating position.
“There were moments that you let go. According to me, Bangladesh have been extremely ordinary and you will see the negative consequence of that tomorrow or [the] day after, when the match will be over in four days.”
Bangladesh hasn’t been able to come up with their best and the hosts missed many catches in the first innings, which led to their downfall. As a result, India was able to go past the 400-run mark.
India would want to keep the good show in the second innings and wrap up the match.
