Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has lauded Virat Kohli’s preparation in the training sessions. Dravid said Kohli is incredible and he looks more hungry in the nets. Kohli had to go through a rough patch in the last couple of years but he has come roaring back to form.
The talisman scored 296 runs in six matches of the T20 World Cup at an average of 98.67 and a strike rate of 136.41. Subsequently, Kohli was rested for the New Zealand tour and then could not get going in the first two ODIs against Bangladesh.
However, Kohli finally ended his ODI century drought of more than three years as he scored 113 runs off 91 balls in the third game against the Tigers. But Kohli could not take the same form in Test cricket as he was dismissed after scoring only one run.
“Virat Kohli is incredible, his preparation is a lesson for all the youngsters, he looks more hungry and to do well for the team,” Dravid said during lunch on Day 2 of the opening Test at Chattogram.
Dravid highlighted Kohli has always been compared with the high benchmarks which he has set for himself at the top level. As a coach, Dravid said it was important for him to look beyond numbers and he feels Kohli was making a decent contribution to the team’s success even when he wasn’t at his absolute best.
“It was not easy for him since the standards that he has set for himself,” Dravid added.
“It has been fantastic to watch Virat Kohli train and prepare over the last one and a half years,” Dravid further added.
“As coaches, it is our job to look beyond those numbers and see that he had batted really well in that period of time,” the India head coach concluded.
Kohli has definitely got back into form in the white-ball formats and he would want to carry the same form in the red-ball version.
Meanwhile, India posted 404 runs in the first innings and the Tigers are struggling at 8-2.
