Dinesh Karthik highlights weakness in Team India’s batting display in ENG vs IND 2026 2nd T20I

Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik believes Indian batters need to adapt to new conditions to savor success while playing overseas. India suffered a four-wicket loss against England in the second T20I at Old Trafford, Manchester on Saturday.

Earlier, India suffered a 0-2 series loss against Ireland as they were stunned by the home team. Thus, it hasn’t been a great start for India T20I team under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.

Meanwhile, India posted 190 runs on the board after electing to bat first but England was able to chase down the target with an over to spare. Karthik noted India should have posted 210-22 runs on the board after they were 130-3 after 13 overs.

“I felt that when India were 130-3, they should have targetted 210-220, but that would need heroics through the middle. Shivam Dube found it very hard, very rare it happens for a middle-order batter. Tilak Varma, who came in after Shivam Dube, again, a bit rusty at the start, but soon, he got some good shots going towards the back end,” Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Karthik highlighted that English bowlers were forcing Indian batters to hit to the bigger boundaries by bowling at the pads.

“Ishan Kishan, who actually is somebody who always, has the intent very high, got 49 off 40 balls, which tells you on a ground which had one side very short and other one very, very big, also the wind working against them, England were constantly bowling into the pads when playing towards the bigger boundary. So, they used the conditions well,” Dinesh Karthik said.

“That is something the Indian batters will have to learn. How do we deal when it is lopsided with the wind in play. In India, a lot of the times, we do find grounds that will be lopsided when they play on the side pitches, but when it is a factor, along with the wind, it becomes extremely challenging, and India felt that today,” he elaborated.

The third T20I between England and India will be played at Nottingham on Tuesday.
