England captain Harry Brook revealed he heard a few lads say that they wanted to play India in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026. India is the number one T20I side in the ICC rankings and England would look to come up with a collective effort.
Barring a loss against the West Indies in the group stage, England have been right on the money in the T20I showpiece. Meanwhile, India had beaten England comprehensively by 68 runs in the semifinal of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“We are all really excited. I’ve already heard a few lads say that they wanted to play India anyway. It’s going to be a massive occasion with a hell of a lot of pressure whilst we are out there, pressure for both sides. They have obviously got a hell of a lot of support and I’m not sure there is going to be many people behind us. It is going to be very loud, and hopefully we can play our best cricket,” Harry Brook told Sky Sports ahead of the semi-final.
Brook also shed light on his team’s planning against fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The England skipper said it would be imperative for them to play according to the match situation.
“That just depends on how the game’s playing out really. We don’t know what the pitch is going to be like yet. He is obviously a world-class bowler, has been for many years, and he has a good impact in certain situations as well, and we got to try and play the situation and the conditions as well as we can, and that is what we have done throughout the competition,” Harry Brook said.
Brook has been in fine form and had scored a majestic century against Pakistan in the Super 8 clash. The right-hander has scored 228 runs in seven matches of the ongoing T20I showpiece at an average of 32.57 and a strike rate of 161.70.
India will take on England in the second semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday.
