Virat Kohli over the years have grown into a modern day legend. Apart from improving his skills at cricket, he has also developed himself as a human being. His former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate AB de Villiers recently revealed that the former Indian captainm was very arrogant and cocky.
De Villiers did not have the best impression of Kohli at that time at RCB. However he revealed that as he got to know more about him personally, he understood his personality. Kohli went through different phases in his life and with success and failure he only became a better person. He gradually developed as a human being as even De Villiers felt that Kohli had a barrier around him when he met him first.
“Oh my goodness…I have had this question before and I had given this answer before as well. I think he was quite cocky and arrogant when I met him the first time. With that hairstyle and he had bit of a strut going…,”De Villiers replied when asked about his first impression of Kohli.
Chris Gayle who was listening to De Villiers’ remark could not stop laughing. “Flamboyant, was he?” the Universe boss added.
De Villiers explained how Kohli had a barrier around him and as he got to understand the human being he found out his true nature. He felt that Kohli should be more down to earth after his first impression of the former Indian skipper.
“Yes absolutely,” replied De Villiers. “”But the minute I got to know him a bit better and watched him play I mean I’ve got as much respect for him but I got to know him better as a human being. I think he had a barrier around him when I met him the first time and that barrier opened up and I got to know the person. I didn’t not like him but you know what I’m saying. He’s a top person now but first impression was ufff…he’s got to come down to earth a bit.”
However they gelled on pretty well and the duo wrecked havoc against teams in the IPL. Also with Chris Gayle in the lineup, RCB were simply unstoppable on their day. Gayle however left RCB in 2018 and De Villiers announced his retirement from the sport in 2021. Kohli also gave up his captaincy but remains as RCB’s main man even after so many years.
