ICC Test rankings – Stokes replaces Holder as top rank all-rounder, takes third place as batsman

England’s talisman all-rounder Ben Stokes has replaced the West Indies captain Jason Holder as the top-ranked all-rounder after a match-winning performance at Old Trafford in the second Test match. Stokes has become the first England player to reach the pinnacle of the all-rounder’s list after Andrew Flintoff had reached the top position back in May 2006.

Going into the Test match, Stokes was trailing Holder by 34 rating points in the list of the all-rounder’s rankings. After his brilliant show at Old Trafford, the England talisman now enjoys a 38 rating points lead over the West Indies captain, with a total of 497 points.

Furthermore, Stokes is now placed at joint third place among the batsmen rankings, with Marnus Labuschagne, which is the career best for him. The southpaw batsman had scored a gargantuan knock of 176 runs in the first innings off 356 balls, his longest ever innings in terms of balls, whereas he backed it with a quickfire unbeaten knock of 78 runs. Moreover, the right-arm pacer took three wickets in the Test match.

On the other hand, Stokes’ batting partner Dom Sibley, who scored a patient knock of 120 runs in the first innings, has taken a jump of 29 places to take the career-best 35th place.

Meanwhile, Stuart Broad who made a roaring comeback into the second Test after getting dropped from the first, has reached the 10th rank after six wickets in the match.

Chris Woakes, who snared five wickets in the match, is now placed at the 21st rank after making a gain of three places. Sam Curran, who provided the crucial breakthrough of Brooks in the second innings, has taken a leap of two places to occupy the 38th place as a bowler.

For the West Indies, Shamarh Brooks, who scored fifties in each of the innings, has advanced by 27 places to reach career-best 45th rank. Jason Holder has slipped to the third rank in the bowlers rankings whereas he slipped by four places in the batsmen rankings to take the 41st place. Roston Chase has gained two places in the bowlers rankings after a five-wicket haul in the first innings to take the 31st place.
