Former Australian opener Mark Waugh has showered praise on Suryakumar Yadav, stating his real skill is to hit the ball where no fielder is positioned. SKY is well known for playing with the field and has a 360-degree game. The right-hander has been under the pump for his ODI form in the recent past however he has grabbed his chances against Australia.
After scoring a 49-ball 50 in the first ODI against the Aussies, SKY scored a fine knock of 72 runs off just 37 balls in the second ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Sunday. The right-hander from Mumbai smashed six fours and as many sixes in his blistering knock.
Ergo, SKY added the finishing touches and helped India post a gargantuan score of 399 runs on the board after Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bowl first.
“He is completely unique. I have never seen a player hit the ball to the areas he hits it. His real skill is to hit the ball where there is no fielder. That sounds simple, but that needs skills. He can manipulate the field and finds the gaps,” Waugh told Jio Cinema.
SKY joined forces with KL Rahul with India in a dominating position at 302-4 in 40 overs after Ishan Kishan was dismissed.
“Today was tailor-made for him. The platform was set with 10 overs go in good batting conditions. It’s the dimensions he scored runs today. We saw him go square of the wicket, which he is known for. But the shots he hit over covers and mid-off was impressive,” Nayar said.
SKY also smashed Cameron Green for four consecutive sixes in the 44th over and once again showed his class.
Meanwhile, earlier in the game, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill scored fine centuries and added 200 runs for the second wicket. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin bagged three wickets apiece as Australia was bundled out for only 218 runs while chasing a revised target of 317 in 33 overs.
