Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav was delighted after they defeated Australia by 44 runs at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. India posted a huge score of 235 runs, their fifth-highest T20I score, after they were put into bat by Matthew Wade.
Yashasvi Jaiswal gave a blistering start to his team, scoring 53 runs off just 25 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes. India scored 77 runs in the Powerplay overs with Jaiswal doing the lion’s share of the scoring whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad played second fiddle.
Ishan Kishan then scored back-to-back fifties, completing the personal milestone off just 29 balls. However, he like Jaiswal, was also dismissed after getting to a fifty. Gaikwad went on to score 58 runs off 43 balls whereas the late flourish was given by Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh who scored 19 and 31 runs respectively.
On the other hand, Australia lost three early wickets in the first six overs, which pegged them on the back foot. None of the Australian batters could go past the 50-run mark as the Indian bowlers were right on the money despite the tough dew conditions.
SKY is glad that the young players are taking the onus on their shoulders and they are getting the job done for the team.
He said in the post-match presentation, “The boys are not putting too much pressure on me. They are taking onus. I told them before, be prepared to bat first. There was a lot of dew. We talked to defend it later.”
SKY also hailed Rinku Singh, who scored another cameo of 9-ball 31 with the help of four fours and two maximums. Yadav compared KKR batter with legendary MS Dhoni, for being calm at the crease.
SKY added, “I saw Rinku came in to bat in the last game, the composure he showed was brilliant. It reminded me of someone(laughs). Everyone knows the answer.”
