Former Indian batter Abhishek Nayar reckons Yashasvi Jaiswal’s aggressive approach as an opener is his biggest strength. The left-hander is well known for his attacking approach and he has done a fine job at the top of the order.
Jaiswal scored an 8-ball 21 in the first T20I against Australia at Vizag on Thursday with the help of two fours and as many sixes. In fact, the 21-year-old got off to mark with a four and smashed a six on the second ball in the opening game.
The southpaw has scored 269 runs in 10 T20I matches at an average of 33.62 and a blistering strike rate of 172.44, including a century. Furthermore, the left-hander has also impressed in the IPL while playing for Rajasthan Royals. The youngster has scored 1172 runs in 37 IPL matches at an average of 32.56 and a whirlwind strike rate of 148.73.
“See, this is his strength. He’s not a player who takes too much time to settle in. I think he’s been given the role to play with freedom. He plays in the same way for Mumbai in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. If you are a player who is instinctively aggressive, then you should remain that way,” Abhishek Nayar said on JioCinema.
Nayar wants India to back the same team that played in the first T20I as all the players were playing after a long time.
“In the 1st T20I, all the players were playing after a long time, so I think they should be given one more match before the management thinks about making any change in the XI. Also, there was nothing for the spinners in the pitch in Visakhapatnam. They should continue playing the winning XI,” Mishra also said on JioCinema.
India will aim to continue the good show in the second game against Australia. The second T20I between India and Australia will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
