Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh expressed his shock after it has been reported that KL Rahul will be rested along with Virat Kohli for the third T20I against South Africa at Indore. Kohli is all set to be rested while Rahul could also be benched for the dead rubber contest.
Rahul had scored a scintillating knock of 57 runs off just 28 balls in the second T20I and he had looked at his previous best. In fact, there were doubts over Rahul’s strike rate but he was able to put that to bed in the second game as he played a fine knock at the top of the order.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli continued his good form as he scored an unbeaten knock of 49 runs off 28 balls in the second game against the visitors and added a vital alliance of 102 runs off just 42 balls with Suryakumar Yadav.
Ganesh said Rahul just got back his rhythm back and it wouldn’t make sense to rest him for the third T20I against the Proteas.
“Yes, both Virat and Rahul have been rested from the final T20I,” said a BCCI official. “KL Rahul has been rested from the final T20I,” a BCCI official told PTI.
Ganesh added both Kohli and Rahul recently had long lay-offs and they should play the third T20I to keep up their batting impetus.
“KL Rahul had only got his rhythm back and he is been rested along with Kohli for the third T20I. I don’t understand this. Both had long layoffs & had only returned recently. When you’re in form play as many games as possible & score runs. That’s what I believe,” Dodda Ganesh tweeted.
India has been experimenting a lot with their playing combination, which hasn’t pleased many cricket experts.
