India has been in red-hot form and as expected had sealed their Super 8 berth after beating Pakistan comprehensively by 61 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday. Team India has won all their three matches so far, beating the USA, Namibia, and Pakistan.
Suryakumar Yadav’s team will play their last Group A game against the Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, as per the seedings, India have been placed in Group 1. The Men in Blue were expected to be drawn with two-time champions West Indies, previous editions runners South Africa, and one-time champion Australia.
As Australia suffered two losses against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and after Zimbabwe’s match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain on Tuesday, Sikandar Raza’s team has qualified for the Super 8s, knocking Australia out of the tournament.
Thus, India will play against the West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe in the Super 8 stage.
India’s schedule for Super 8:
February 22: India vs South Africa, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, 7 PM IST.
February 26: India vs Zimbabwe, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, 7 PM IST.
March 1: India vs West Indies, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, 7 PM IST.
Meanwhile, India entered the tournament as big favorites and they have played like a team on a mission. They were not at their best with the bat in the opening fixture against the USA but have pulled their socks since then.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and England are the other teams, who have qualified for the Super 8 stage. Pakistan will need to win against Namibia to qualify for the Super 8.
