IPL 2022: Moeen Ali’s spell demolished Delhi Capitals – Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra reckons Moeen Ali’s spell demolished Delhi Capitals at the Dr. DY Sports Academy, Mumbai on Sunday.

CSK posted a par score of 208 runs after Devon Conway scored a brilliant knock of 87 runs off just 49 balls as he batted at the top of his game.

Moeen Ali returned with impressive figures of 3-13 in his quota of four overs. Ali accounted for Rishabh Pant, Ripal Patel, and Mitchell Marsh as he bowled a superb spell to put the opposition on the backfoot.

Furthermore, Mukesh Chaudhary, Simarjeet Singh, and Dwayne Bravo scalped two wickets each to come up with a fine performance.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “You (DC) should have started well but that didn’t happen. Moeen Ali’s three-wicket haul was a sensational haul. He dismissed Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant and Ripal Patel – you demolished the opposition, the heart and the heartbeat, everything finished.”

Ali dismissed Rishabh Pant and Ripal Patel in the same over and helped his team put their noses in front.

“Warner had already gotten out at the start off Theekshana’s bowling, KS Bharat had gotten out off Simarjeet’s ball. Mitchell and Rishabh Pant were playing very well, there to dismiss both of them and then Ripal, he just finished it, game dusted, sealed, delivered. That was Moeen.”

DC went on to lose by a massive margin of 91 runs and it was one-way traffic throughout the game as CSK outplayed the opposition with both bat as well as the ball. The renowned commentator added that the way Rishabh Pant is getting dismissed is disappointing.

“This team (DC) was not even close. When you lose by such a huge margin, 91 runs to be precise, it means you have been handed an innings defeat. The big questions are that Rishabh Pant is playing amazingly well but the way he is getting out is disappointing.”

Former KKR player feels DC needs to come up with a more collective effort with the bat as they can’t always rely on David Warner and Rovman Powell.

“Mitchell Marsh has to play a knock that is going to be a game-changer. Rovman Powell will not win you the match, again and again, David Warner will not score runs every day. I feel this team is struggling. Delhi’s condition is looking a little dispirited to me. I want Delhi to win but Delhi is not looking like winning.”

DC will next face Rajasthan Royals at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Wednesday.
