Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman and recently appointed talent scout for Delhi Capitals Saba Karim has heaped praise on the team’s opener Prithvi Shaw.
Karim stated that Shaw contributed in almost every game and lauded the youngster for his consistency.
Shaw had come under the scanner after he could only muster 228 runs in the previous season of the IPL, which was played in the UAE. The right-hander could only go past the 50-run mark on two occasions and could not get going.
Subsequently, the right-hander from Mumbai, could not deliver in the first Test match against Australia and thus was dropped. However, he made a solid comeback in the Vijay Hazare trophy as he scored 827 runs and became the first batsman to score more than 800 runs in the tournament.
Shaw was able to carry the same form in the IPL as he batted at the top of his game and took the attack against the opposition from the word go. The talented batsman returned with scores of 72, 32, 53, 21, 82, 37 and 7 as he amassed 308 runs in eight matches at an average of 38.50 and a blistering strike rate of 166.40.
Shaw scored three fifties and provided consistent starts to DC with Shikhar Dhawan. The right-hander brought his fifty against KKR off just 18 balls and scored 82 off just 41 balls to play a match-winning knock.
“If we talk about one player, Prithvi Shaw is the young Indian batsman who impressed me the most because we have seen a brilliant turnaround. The impactful knocks Prithvi Shaw has played along with Shikhar Dhawan, because of that only Delhi Capitals are in such a strong situation,” Karim said while talking to India News.
“Prithvi Shaw has contributed in every match, and the biggest thing is that the consistency we have seen in his batting is the result of hard work and his strong temperament, and it shows how much effort the youngster has put in to come back in good form,” he added.
Meanwhile, DC won six out of the eight matches they played and were at the top of the points table before the tournament was suspended indefinitely by BCCI.
