Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming is happy with the team’s selection in the IPL 2022 mega auction. The four-time champions once again followed their philosophy of backing the experience and they repurchased players like Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa.
But the team could not retain players like Shardul Thakur and Faf du Plessis.
Furthermore, they broke the bank for Deepak Chahar as they brought him for a whopping amount of INR 14 crores. However, Chahar’s participation in the IPL is doubtful as he had suffered a hamstring injury in the T20I series against the West Indies.
“We are really happy it went according to plan. We lost a couple of players which we are a bit sad about but we have gained some real talent. We’ve got, this year, some good blend of experience and youth. So we’re really excited about the way the auction went down,” he said.
Meanwhile, former New Zealand captain was delighted after CSK bought players like Devon Conway, Adam Milne, and Mitchell Santner. Conway was roped in for his base price of INR 1 crore whereas Milne and Santner joined CSK for INR 1.9 crore each.
Conway can open the innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad whereas Santner can be a perfect spin-bowling all-rounder in favorable Indian conditions. Milne has extra pace under his arsenal and he can breathe down the neck of the opposition batters.
“We are really happy it went according to plan. We lost a couple of players which we are a bit sad about but we have gained some real talent. We’ve got, this year, some good blend of experience and youth. So we’re really excited about the way the auction went down,” he said.
Chennai has once again got an experienced squad and it will be interesting to note how they will go about their business in the 15th season of the IPL.
Chennai Super Kings will begin their title defense against the previous season’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on March 26.
