IPL 2022: If not for Tim David, we would have made a bigger impression: Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody

Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody reckons they had a good chance to boost their NRR against Mumbai Indians in the 65th match of the ongoing IPL 2022, which was played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Firstly, the Orange Army could not finish their batting innings on a high despite good knocks from Priyam Garg (42), Rahul Tripathi (76) and Nicholas Pooran (38).

SRH could only manage 29 runs in the final four overs and also lost four wickets. Thus, they could only post 193 runs on the board but at one stage they looked all set to get to 210 runs.

Furthermore, SRH had their noses in front while defending the score as MI needed 45 runs in the last three overs. However, MI’s hard-hitter Tim David smashed four sixes in the 18th over against T Natarajan as the left-arm pacer failed to hit the mark with his yorkers.

David scored a hat-trick of sixes against Natarajan as he cleared the ropes comfortably. The right-hander scored a quickfire knock of 46 runs off just 18 balls to turn the game on its head.

However, SRH was able to get a thrilling win by three runs as David was run out on the final ball of the 18th over. But this narrow win didn’t help SRH’s NRR and they are now all but knocked out of the playoff stages.

“Oh, look, at the end of the day, you’ve got to win the game first and that was our priority. If we got ourselves into a position where, you know, we managed to get enough runs, which we did tonight, you know, we may have made an impression on the net run rate, but if it wasn’t for, you know, extraordinary innings from Tim David, we may have made a bigger impression on our net run rate,” Moody said.

“He played an incredible knock and dragged Mumbai back into the contest. And by doing that, they also, you know, shorten the margin between our score and obviously their score,” Moody concluded on David.

SRH would be happy to get the win but they could have won the game by a bigger margin to stay in contention for playoff stages. SRH will next face Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
