Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Pat Cummins has been ruled for the rest of the season with a slight hip injury. As Cummins won’t be able to recover on time, he will return back to Australia. It has been reported that Cummins was diagnosed after KKR’s match against Mumbai Indians which they won by 52 runs.
Cummins had bowled a fine spell as he had scalped three wickets and conceded only 22 runs in his quota of four overs. However, KKR has decided not to name any replacement for Cummins.
The Australian has left the team bubble for Sydney and he will now undergo his rehab before Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka. In fact, Cummins has been rested for the T20I series against the Island nation and is expected to recover on time for the remainder of the tour.
Cummins gave his gratitude to the franchise as he said, “I had an amazing time in India, and I would like to thank KKR for taking care of my family and me. I wish all the team members the best of luck for the remainder of the tournament. I will be watching the games and be cheering on.”
Earlier in the season, Cummins scored the joint-fastest fifty in the IPL history as he got to the personal milestone off just 14 balls against Mumbai Indians. Cummins didn’t have a great season with the ball as he scalped seven wickets in five matches he played for the two-time champions. The Australian Test skipper bowled with an average of 30.28 and conceded his runs at a high economy rate of 10.68 in the ongoing 15th season of the IPL.
Meanwhile, KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by a massive margin of 54 runs at the Maharastra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Saturday after Andre Russell starred with both bat as well as the ball.
KKR will next face Lucknow Super Giants at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Wednesday.
