IPL 2022: Tymal Mills ruled out of the remainder of the season due to injury; Tristan Stubbs named as replacement

    May 9, 2022

Mumbai Indians have named South African wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs as the replacement for Tymal Mills, who has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL 2022 season with an ankle injury.

The 21-year-old Stubbs is a middle-order batter and is mainly known for his aggressive style of batting. He has played 17 T20 games in his career so far and has amassed 506 runs, including three fifties. Stubbs has an impressive strike-rate of 157.14 as well. He will be joining Mumbai at an base price of INR 20 Lakhs.

Stubbs also made his debut for the South Africa A team recently in the series against Zimbabwe. He had a very good domestic season and also played a crucial role for his team in the recently concluded domestic T20 League.

The youngster has also played eight first-class matches and 11 List-A matches. He has amassed 465 first-class runs at an average of 46.50. That includes two centuries and a fifty as well. He is a very agile wicket-keeper too and thus offers immense dual value to any team he plays for.

Mills, on the other hand, played a total of five matches for Mumbai Indians this season and picked up six wickets at an average of 31.66. He was assigned the middle-overs and death bowling role for Mumbai but Mills failed miserably as he recorded an overall economy rate of 11.17 in the five matches he played.

Mumbai picked up the English bowler for a sum of INR 1.50 crores in the auctions. Mills has struggled with injuries throughout his career but he had become much fitter of late. Unfortunately, another injury has brought an end to his second stint in the IPL. His last stint in the Indian Premier League was with RCB in 2017. Mills also played five matches for them, picking up an equal number of wickets at 30.60.
