Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting reckons his team has a squad that can win the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
Delhi has definitely improved their performances in the last couple of seasons and they will be looking to clinch their maiden IPL title.
Ponting has all the coaching experience and he will be looking to guide the young players on the right path. Delhi had qualified for the final of IPL 2020 and then also made it to the playoff stages of the previous season but could not go all the way in the last two editions.
Meanwhile, Delhi was able to add players like Rovman Powell, Tim Seifert, David Warner, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mitchell Marsh in the IPL mega auction. Thus, Delhi was able to gather a strong team in the auction and the players will be looking to give their best in the upcoming season.
Ricky Ponting said in the video uploaded by the team’s social media team, “We have a great squad. We have a squad that can win the IPL. We’ve got lots of talent but guess what, we’ve got to find a way to be different than everybody else. The little things that we do and the attention we pay to detail, that will separate us from the rest of the teams in the IPL.”
The former Australian captain wants the team to follow the mantra of effort, commitment, attitude, and care.
“I talked about four words – one was attitude, one was effort, one was commitment and the last part was care. This group and tournament for me is not just about the players and the coaches. What we try and create at the Delhi Capitals is a family environment. I’ll treat the captain, the senior guys, the baggage guys exactly the same.”
Ponting added that he means business and wants to get the best out of the players in the upcoming season.
“I don’t like laziness. I don’t like lateness. I don’t like sitting back and watching people wasting their talent. I don’t like watching people wasting their time. If you’ve finished your training session, part of the care thing is looking around and understanding how you might be able to help someone else.”
Delhi Capitals will begin their season against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on 27th March.
