Former England captain Eoin Morgan highlighted it is hard to believe that Sanju Samson doesn’t get to play more for India. Samson has always shown great skills and talent while playing in the IPL over the years but he hasn’t received a lot of chances for the national team.
The RR skipper once again continued his love affair of starting the season on a high as he scored a fine knock of 55 runs off just 32 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday. The flamboyant batter scored three fours and four sixes in his fine knock and thus, he helped RR post a par score of 203 runs on the board.
Meanwhile, Samson has scored 330 runs in 11 ODI matches for India at an average of 66. But he is yet to grab his chances in the T20I format as he has amassed only 301 runs in 17 matches at an average of 20.07.
With the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant rising through the ranks, Sanju Samson has got limited opportunities for the national side.
“It’s hard to believe that he does not play more international cricket when he plays with ease and as well as this. The time he has and the power that he generates from shots of the backfoot like that are incredible,” Morgan was quoted as saying in Jio Cinema.
The former World Cup-winning captain lauded Samson for taking the attack against Adil Rashid in the middle overs. Samson smashed two sixes against the veteran leg-spinner.
“They are not many people that play shots like that to Adil Rashid like that throughout the world. He is a difficult bowler to pick, let alone play and attack. What a way to start the tournament, Sanju Samson. Getting out of the blocks earlier, scoring runs early in the tournament, we have seen this before, can he maintain that? Only time will tell,” he added.
RR won their opening game against SRH by a huge margin of 72 runs and they will look to carry the same form in the upcoming matches.
The previous season’s runners-up will next take on Punjab Kings on Wednesday, April 5 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
