Mumbai Indians veteran spinner Piyush Chawla has backed underfire Suryakumar Yadav to regain form. SKY was dismissed for a golden duck against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday when MI was chasing 173 runs.
The 32-year-old from Mumbai still needs to get going in the ongoing IPL. The right-hander scored 15 runs in the opening clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore and then could manage only one run against Chennai Super Kings.
Furthermore, SKY was dismissed for three golden ducks in the three-match ODI series against Australia before the IPL. Chawla feels it is only a matter of facing 10 balls for Suryakumar Yadav and he will be back in form.
In the post-match press conference, Piyush Chawla said, “Surya’s form was never a concern. It takes only 10 balls to make a comeback in this format, you hit four fours and you are back in form. He got out on the first ball, but that happens, the situation was such. That could have been a four or a six too so this happens.
“The kind of batter Surya is, he’s high on confidence and it’s only a matter of 10 balls, he’ll be back to his form.”
On the other hand, experienced spinner Piyush Chawla was at his best for Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals. Chawla returned with figures of 3-22 in his quota of four overs against DC as he accounted for Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, and Lalit Yadav. The willy leg-spinner added he tries to give his 100% in every game he plays.
“I’m not playing much of cricket like domestic or competitive cricket but I make sure whatever game I play, I put my more than 100% and body on the line. I make sure I am bowling with my full potential.
“If you talk about watching cricket then I don’t watch much cricket to be very honest. I feel if you bowl a good ball it’s a good ball in any format and for any batter so I just prepare myself and strengthen myself.”
Mumbai Indians will play their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
