Gujarat Titans batter Rahul Tewatia gave credit to skipper Shubman Gill for giving them continuous momentum in the run-chase of 197 against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Wednesday after their three-wicket win.
Gill added 64 runs off 50 balls with opening partner Sai Sudharsan, who scored 35 off 29 balls. The GT skipper scored a fine knock of 72 runs off just 44 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
Gill didn’t get much support from the other end but kept his team in the contest with regular boundaries.
“Shubman Gill provided us continuous momentum. He provided support till last and we have deep batting. Rashid Khan plays at No.8. The plan was to take game as deep as possible,” Tewatia said in the post-match press conference.
Tewatia added he was confident of getting his team over the line when 42 runs were needed off the last three overs.
“In the last three overs we needed 40 runs and I was batting with Shahrukh Khan and Rashid Khan was still to come. We were just telling each other that two or three hits can change the game. We are in it. Furthermore, we just have to believe in ourselves. And play according to the situation,” Tewatia added.
The left-hander gave credit to the team management for backing him to the hilt and giving him all the freedom.
“The team knows how I back my strengths and they have given me full freedom to execute those plans. Even I practice I stimulate same match situations on how will I bat if the same situation occur in the match.”
