Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill admitted they were not able to pick up wickets in the middle overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru after their nine-wicket loss at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
GT posted a decent total of 200 runs on the board but RCB were able to chase it down with four overs to spare. Virat Kohli, who was criticized for his strike rate in the last game, scored a fine knock of 70 runs off just 44 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
Furthermore, Will Jacks played a scintillating knock of 100 runs off just 41 balls with the help of five fours and 10 maximums, thus 80% of his runs came in boundaries. Jacks scored a run-a-ball 17 but changed gears to smash 83 runs off the next 24 balls.
The England batter scored his runs at a strike rate of 243.90 and took on the attack against Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan at the fag end. Barring Azmatullah Omarzai, all the GT bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 10.
Gill feels they need to come up with better plans in the next match and make their execution better.
Gill said after the loss, “I think it was great hitting by them (Kohli and Jacks.) We need to come up with better plans in the next match, also need to execute them. When you are batting you can always think of scoring 15-20 runs more.”
He added, “We thought 200 was a good enough total for us, unfortunately it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to. We were not able to pick up wickets in the middle overs, I think that was the turning point for us.”
Gujarat Titans will once again take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
