Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has explained why Chennai Super Kings are a successful unit whereas Royal Challengers Bangalore are not in the IPL folklore. McCullum played for both the teams in his IPL career and knows what goes around in the dressing room.
Meanwhile, Chennai has won the IPL title on three occasions and finished as the runners-up on five occasions. In fact, they were able to break into the playoff stages every single time except for the IPL 2016 and 2017 when they were not part of the tournament.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to savour success in the IPL history. RCB have finished as the second best team on three occasions but have failed to go all the way.
McCullum stated CSK is focussed on giving ample opportunities to their players and gives selection loyalties to its players. On the other hand, the former Kiwi skipper added RCB chases a perfect team and don’t have a plan on how they are going to play. McCullum also added that CSK have very little white noise whereas RCB have too much of it.
McCullum was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “One team gives selection loyalty and works on the team they have; the other chases a perfect team and doesn’t have a blueprint for how they are going to play. CSK has very little white noise around them. RCB have too much”.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni leadership has also played a big role in the success of the Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni has led the club with a calm mind on his shoulder which has helped him produce the right results for the team.
On the other hand, Brendon McCullum played 28 matches for Chennai Super Kings in which he scored 841 runs at an average of 32.34. However, McCullum didn’t have a great stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore as he could only muster 127 runs in six matches at an average of 21.16.
The Indian Premier League was slated to begin from March 29 with CSK taking on defending champions Mumbai Indians. However, the tournament has been suspended till April 15 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
