Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar has welcomed MCC’s new rule change as he stated that Mankading should have always been termed run out.
The Marylebone Cricket Club has decided to move it from Law 41 (Unfair Play) to Law 38 (Runout). Mankading has always been a controversial decision in the game and MCC has been praised by a lot of cricket experts for the latest rule change.
In fact, the bowlers were often criticized when they Mankaded the non-striker. However, it should be noted that the non-striker is trying a steal a couple of yards before the ball is bowled and he should be blamed for backing too far. Furthermore, the rule was confused with the spirit of the game as it was under Law 41 (Unfair play).
There is no doubt that in the case of Mankading, the non-striker is being unfair as he is trying to gain an undue advantage and thus the bowler has every right to run him out.
Sachin Tendulkar said on his Twitter post, “New rules have been introduced in cricket by the MCC committee and I am quite supportive of a couple of them. The first one being the Mankading dismissal. I was always uncomfortable with that particular dismissal being called Mankaded.”
“I am really happy that it’s been changed to run out. It always should have been run out according to me. So this is one good news for all of us. I was not comfortable with it all but that won’t be the case anymore.”
On the other hand, Master Blaster also expressed his delight on other rule change. The new batsman will now take strike when the catch will be taken even if the two batters cross each other unless it is the last ball of the over.
“And the second one where the batter is dismissed, being caught, the new batter has to come and face the ball. The new batter takes the strike. It’s absolutely fair because if a bowler has been successful in picking a wicket it’s only fair that a bowler gets a chance to bowl to a new batter. This new rule is a good one and well done on that.”
The new rule will be introduced across formats from October.
