Indian opener KL Rahul entered the record books on Wednesday after England captain Ben Stokes decided to bowl first at Old Trafford, Manchester. Rahul completed 1000 runs in England and became the second Indian opener after Sunil Gavaskar to achieve the milestone.
Gavaskar scored 1152 runs in 16 Test matches in English conditions. Meanwhile, Rahul needed 28 runs to complete 1000 Test runs in England on Wednesday. He achieved the landmark while playing his 13th Test match in England.
Furthermore, Rahul became the fourth Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid to score 1000 runs against England in England.
Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-getter from India against England in English conditions with 1575 runs in 17 Test matches at an average of 54.31.
Meanwhile, Rahul remained unbeaten on 40 after lunch was called on the opening day of the fourth Test. India were 78-0 after 26 overs with Yashasvi Jaiswal also unbeaten on 36.
Before the Old Trafford Test, Rahul scored 375 runs in three Test matches against England in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar series at an average of 62.50. The flamboyant batter has scored two centuries in the series and would aim to carry the good form.
Rahul has looked compact in his technique as an opener in the recent past. The right-hander has amassed 3632 runs in 61 Test matches at an average of 35.26. The experienced batter has an average of 39.62 while playing in India, whereas he averages 33.55 in foreign conditions.
