Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has warned Australia of in-form Virat Kohli’s threat ahead of the second Border-Gavaskar Test. Australia suffered a huge loss of 295 runs in the opening Test at Perth but Clarke reckons Kohli getting back amongst the runs is a bigger worry for the hosts.
Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 100 runs in the second innings after he was dismissed cheaply for five runs in the first essay. The talisman scored his 31st Test century and his seventh hundred in the Australian conditions. Kohli had only managed 93 runs in three Test matches against New Zealand but turned a corner against Australia.
Clarke backed Kohli to be the highest run-getter for India in the second Test match against Australia.
Clarke said on Around the Wicket podcast, “When I think about losing the Test match, that’s one thing. When I think about Virat Kohli making a hundred in the first Test, that scares me more. I am going to go with Virat as the leading run-scorer for India in this second Test.”
On the other hand, Kohli gave credit to his wife Anushka Sharma for always standing up to him through thick and thin.
He told official broadcasters after scoring his century, “Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin. She knows everything that goes on behind the scenes. Knows what goes on in the head when you’re not performing well. I’m not a guy who hangs around for the sake of it. I take pride in performing for the country.”
Kohli will definitely look to continue his good form against Australia and he is going to hold the key for the visitors. The second Test match between Australia and India, which will be a pink-ball game, will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards.
