Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni recalled batting with talisman batter Virat Kohli. As Dhoni and Kohli always maintained a high level of fitness, the duo ran a lot of twos and threes while batting together. Kohli mostly played the anchor role whereas Dhoni added the finishing touches in the limited overs formats.
As Kohli and Dhoni were livewire on the field, they enjoyed stealing an extra run from the opposition and always added extra pressure on the fielder by running fast between the sticks.
“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun,” Dhoni said at an event.
Dhoni said he doesn’t often meet Virat Kohli but whenever they get together, they have a meaningful discussion.
“It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dhoni has remained uncertain about his IPL future with Chennai Super Kings and said he will take a call depending on the retention rules.
On the other hand, Kohli joined the national team for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after winning the T20 World Cup. Kohli scored 24 runs in the run-chase of the opener but could not convert his start into a substantial score.
The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday.
