Mumbai tour of Oman, 1st ODI: Shams Mulani, Yashasvi Jaiswal help visitors take lead

Mumbai’s opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Shams Mulani and middle order batsman Hardik Tamore helped their team win the first ODI against Oman by four wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the series at the OC Turf 1 on Sunday.

Earlier, in the day Mumbai captain Shams Mulani also won the toss and elected to field first.

Oman got off to a decent start as Shoaib Khan and Khawar Ali added 45 runs for the opening alliance in the first 10 overs. However, Oman lost the wickets of Shoaib Khan and Kashyap Prajapati in quick succession.

Subsequently, Khawar Ali and Khalid Kail added 57 runs for the fourth wicket before the former was dismissed after scoring 52 from 73 balls. Khalid Kail scored a fine knock of 76 runs off just 84 balls with the help of four fours and a six. However, the rest of the Oman’s couldn’t contribute much to the total as Mumbai stomped their authority.

Oman kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they were bundled out for an under-par score of 196 runs as Shams Mulani scalped three wickets while Aman Khan and Shashank Attarde bagged a brace.

Meanwhile, Mumbai got off to a good start in the run-chase as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Aakarshit Gomel put together an opening stand of 60 runs in nine overs as the former scored at a brisk pace. Jaiswal showed his class as he timed the ball to perfection and batted at the top of his game.

The southpaw scored a quickfire knock of 82 runs off just 79 balls with the help of five fours and as many sixes to score almost half of Oman’s runs. Mumbai lost a couple of wickets in the middle overs but Hardik Tamore added the finishing touches as he scored an unbeaten knock of 51 runs off 70 balls to take his team over the line.
