India’s veteran wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha is focused on performing on the pitch and said the IPL selection will take care of itself. Saha, who played for Tripura for two seasons in the domestic circuit, will return to his home state of Bengal for the upcoming season.
Saha said his responsibility is to play and not think about the IPL. The right-hander scored 136 runs in nine matches for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024 and failed to deliver the goods at the top of the order as he scored his runs at an average of 15.11 and a strike rate of 118.26.
“I talk with everyone. But the team selection for IPL is in December, hence I haven’t thought about it. My responsibility is to play in the ground, team selection is not in my hands,” Wriddhiman said to MyKhel.
Saha added he is focused on performing well for Bengal in the domestic circuit and he is not thinking about the IPL.
“My sole focus is to play well for Bengal and perform for my state. I am thinking about the Ranji Trophy first, no such emphasis on IPL at the moment,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bengal pacers like Mohammed Shami, Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have played for India, the state hasn’t given many batters to the national team in the last decade. Saha admitted it is tough to break into the Indian team.
“Being in the Indian team itself is a big thing. Yes, the bowlers are getting chances because some bowlers get rested, but the batters like Abhimanyu Easwaran, all-rounder such as Shahbaz Ahmed are getting into the team because of their performances, which is a positive for Bengal cricket,” he added.
Saha will look to deliver the goods for Bengal and come up with a consistent show for his state in the upcoming season.
