India’s rising star Arshdeep Singh has revealed that he tries to bowl economically when the ball isn’t swinging for him. The left-arm pacer’s first plan is to take wickets if the ball is swinging for him, bringing LBW and bowled into play, especially while bowling to the right-handers.
Singh has made an impressive start to his T20I career as he has scalped 33 wickets in 21 matches at an average of 18.12 and an economy rate of 8.17. The left-arm pacer had snared 10 wickets in six matches of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
However, Arshdeep didn’t have a great ODI debut against New Zealand as he went wicketless and conceded 68 runs in the 8.1 overs he bowled in the first game of the series.
“In the beginning, if the ball does swing so I try to get people out LBW or bowled, but if the ball doesn’t swing, then the plan is to bowl economically and stop runs.,” Arshdeep said ahead of the 2nd ODI against New Zealand in Hamilton on Sunday.
“Not much difference between bowling four overs in a T20I and an ODI, I’ll continue to back my strengths and try to stop runs for the team,” he added.
The 23-year-old was delighted after making his ODI debut for the national team as it was a dream come true moment for him.
“Very grateful for my debut. It is the dream of every youngster to one day represent the country when they first start playing. I felt great making my debut. Now the goal is to keep doing well and get the team wins,” he said.
There is no doubt Arshdeep Singh has shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he is going to get better with more experience.
Singh will be in action in the third ODI against New Zealand, which will be played at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Wednesday.
