Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera has been cleared to return to the sidelines after his red card from the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 match against NorthEast United FC was officially rescinded. The club confirmed the decision on Sunday, marking a crucial development in their ongoing push for a playoff spot.
The Spanish tactician had already served a touchline ban in the match against FC Goa due to an accumulation of yellow cards. However, with the red card now revoked, Lobera will be available for Odisha FC’s critical clash against Punjab FC on February 10. His presence is expected to provide a much-needed boost as the team fights to break into the top six.
Currently placed seventh in the ISL standings with 25 points from 19 matches, Odisha FC is in a tight race for a playoff berth. Only the top six teams will qualify for the knockout rounds, and with just five games remaining in the regular season, every point is crucial. Lobera’s return to the touchline could play a pivotal role in guiding the team through this decisive phase.
Lobera, an experienced figure in Indian football, is in his third stint in the country, having previously managed FC Goa and Mumbai City FC. His tactical expertise and leadership have been instrumental in shaping Odisha FC’s campaign this season.
As Odisha prepares for their must-win encounter against Punjab FC, fans and players alike will be relieved to have their head coach back on the sidelines, orchestrating their push for a coveted playoff spot.
