India’s veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma is hopeful that the Men in Blue could end their major ICC title drought. India last won a major trophy back in 2013 when MS Dhoni took the team to glory in the Champions Trophy. The Rohit Sharma-led team has qualified for the Super 8 stage after winning the first three matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA.
Indian bowlers have been right on the money in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Bumrah bagged 2-6 against Ireland, and then he backed it up with 3-14 against arch-rivals Pakistan. Subsequently, Arshdeep Singh returned with impressive figures of 4-9 against the USA.
On the other hand, India is yet to come up with a clinical performance with the bat and will want to deliver a more collective show. Rohit Sharma scored a fine fifty in the opening game against Ireland whereas Pant scored a crucial knock of 42 runs against Pakistan. SKY then played a match-winning knock of 50 runs against the USA.
“India’s performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been nothing short of commendable. They have been working very hard as a team and their performance in the World Cup so far reflects that effort and dedication. Packed with some of the world’s best T20 players, they’ve been a dominant force.”
“Qualifying for the Super 8 stage undefeated is a noteworthy accomplishment, but their focus should remain on each individual match, ensuring they deliver their best performance on any given day. One can certainly hope that this year will see them bring the World Cup trophy back to India,” said Ishant on the ‘Caught & Bold’ show on Disney+ Hotstar.
India will begin their Super 8 campaign against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday.
