Australian Test captain Pat Cummins wants to represent the country in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. The Paris Olympics 2024 recently concluded and cricket is all set to be part of the next Games. Recently the USA also hosted the first phase of the T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC is trying its best to globalise the sport all across the world.
Meanwhile, Australia finished fourth in the Paris Olympics medal standings, with 18 gold, 19 silver, and 16 bronze medals and a total of 53 medals.
“Watching the Olympics, it got us all excited. You want to be part of it right there in the middle. I’d love to be on that side (at LA28). I think I’ll be 35 or something, so hopefully still there or thereabouts,” Cummins said on Fox Sports.
“Honestly right now, it feels a long way away. Maybe once we get closer and start building into it, everyone gets a bit more excited,” the fast bowler further added.
Cummins has led Australia with aplomb and he has got the best out of the players. The gun fast bowler led Australia to the World Test Championship 2023 triumph after they defeated India by 209 at Kennington Oval, London.
Furthermore, Cummins led Australia to ODI World Cup 2023 glory. Australia once again bested India by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, cricket was last played in the Olympics back in 1900 when France and Great Britain were the only two participating teams with the former claiming gold.
LA 2028 Olympics will see the introduction of new sports such as flag football, lacrosse, and squash.
