Islamabad United stand-in captain Asif Ali rued the fact his team’s main players are having injury woes, which are not good signs in the fag end of the ongoing
Pakistan Super League. ISU full-time captain Shadab Khan has been out of action due to injury.
Furthermore, Islamabad United had to rejig their batting order against Lahore Qalandars as Faheem Ashraf suffered a hamstring injury.
ISU lost the match by a massive margin of 66 runs against Lahore Qalandars in the 27th match of the tournament at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Saturday as they could not get going with either bat or ball.
Islamabad United conceded 197 runs after Fakhar Zaman scored a fine fifty whereas Harry Brook smashed a blistering century off just 49 balls for Lahore Qalandars. Subsequently, Islamabad United could only manage 131-9 on the board in their 20 overs as none of the batters could convert his starts into substantial scores.
Asif Ali said in the post-match presentation, “We started well (with the ball). They batted well after that. Credit to their batters.
A few bad balls were bowled as well. We had to perform to our ability. We also had to change our batting order because Faheem injured his hamstring. Our main players have injury concerns and that is not good at this stage of the tournament”.
On the other hand, Harry Brook played a magnificent knock for Lahore Qalandars. He was able to hit the ground running and timed the ball to perfection. The 22-year old was awarded the Player of the Match and he was delighted with his performance.
He said after the game, “It was good fun to be out there and post a good total for the team. I have always said in many interviews before that I want to be a match-winner. Very good for me. Probably the best crowd that I have ever played before. It (the hundred) is right up there”.
Islamabad United will look to get back to winning ways and come up with a collective effort United will face reigning champions in the last match of the league stage on Sunday at the same venue of Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
