Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim was delighted after his team defeated Lahore Qalandars by a big margin of 67 runs at the National Stadium, Karachi on Sunday. KK posted a par score of 185-5 after Shaheeh Shah Afridi won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Matthew Wade and James Vince added a good opening stand of 70 runs in the first seven overs. Wade and Vince scored 36 and 46 respectively whereas the middle order also contributed to the score. Imad Wasim continued his good show with the bat as he added the finishing touches with a 19-ball 35.
On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars was skittled out for a paltry score of 118 runs inside 18 overs as they couldn’t get going. Mirza Tahir Baig top-scored with 45 runs but the rest of the batters could not contribute to the total.
Imad Wasim also took one wicket and conceded only 23 runs in his quota of four overs. Thus, he was awarded the Player of the Match whereas Akif Javed took four wickets in his fine spell.
Imad Wasim said in the post-match presentation, “We were on the mark from the start. We began well with the bat and I thought a score of 160-170 was about par. The wicket was really tricky and we didn’t want to lose wickets (about his partnership with Cutting). Just wanted to get to around 170 or so. Bowling was good, everyone did their job. Not easy to bowl under pressure, everyone stuck to their plans and it worked.”
Meanwhile, Shaheen Afirid admitted it was a disappointing loss for his team and they will look to make a solid comeback in the upcoming matches.
Shaheen Shah Afridi said, “It was a big match and obviously disappointing to lose. But it’s a part and parcel of the game. We’ll learn from this defeat and look to come back strong. There were many stages (where Lahore lost the plot), difficult to put a finger on which was the most deciding of them. Yes, there are some positives like Baig who has batted well for us.”
