One of the most impressive uncapped Indian players of suspended IPL 2021 was Delhi Capitals fast bowler Avesh Khan.
The fast bowler from Indore scalped 14 wickets in eight matches at an average of 16.50 and an impressive economy rate of 7.70 before the tournament was indefinitely postponed by the BCCI.
Avesh has impressed with his ability to bowl quick and he was right on the money in IPL 2021. The 24-year old gave credit to Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting for getting the best out of him. Avesh stated Ponting gives inputs on how players can improve.
Ricky Ponting is regarded as one of the best coaches in the world and he has done a fine job for Delhi Capitals. Delhi were able to qualify for the final of IPL 2020 for the first time in their tournament’s history whereas they won six out of the eight matches they played in IPL 2021.
“Last two seasons we have been doing well, we qualified for the playoffs, played in the final last season. Even during this season, we won six out of eight matches,” said Khan while talking to CricketNext.
“Ricky sir has always backed me. I have been associated with him for some time now, so he knows me well. He backs all his young players, speaks to them before and after the games. He gives his inputs on how we can improve ourselves. During team meetings, he’s very positive. Personally, he is fond of me and backs me. Before my first match this season, he told me that my time has come, I know you will do well. You have learned a lot so now the time has come for you to deliver.”
Avesh Khan scalped two three-wicket hauls and impressed with his ability to bowl accurately. In fact, as Avesh was able to grab his chance with both hands, Delhi didn’t even play Anrich Nortje in their final XI, who had done a fine job in the previous season for the franchise.
This performance must have added a shot in the arm for Avesh Khan. Furthermore, the right-arm fast bowler is also picked as a standby player for the England tour and he will help the Indian players in gearing up for the Test series.
