Former Indian batter Rohan Gavaskar believes Punjab Kings may find it difficult to make it to the playoffs after they suffered a three-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals at Dharamshala on Monday in the ongoing IPL 2026. This was PBKS’ fourth loss on the bounce as they have veered off the track at this crucial juncture of the tournament after getting off to a dream start.
PBKS could not defend the target of 211 runs against DC on a pitch, which had assistance for the fast bowlers. Barring Arshdeep Singh, all the PBKS bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 11. Surprisingly, Shreyas Iyer decided not to bowl leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for even a single over.
“The way PBKS were playing, I was thinking that they were a champion team. I was even thinking that we could see a repeat of last year’s final between RCB and PBKS. But if they keep playing like this, they may find it difficult to make it to the top four. Because if you look at the rest of the teams, Chennai has momentum, and there is only a difference of one point between them,” Rohan Gavaskar said on Cricbuzz.
Gavaskar said the dressing room atmosphere becomes tense when a team losses four straight matches in the tournament
“If not today, then tomorrow, Ricky Ponting and the rest of the coaching staff will sit with the captain for a massive strategy meeting as to what should be done now. When you lose four matches in a row, the dressing room’s atmosphere becomes a little tense,” Rohan Gavaskar said.
PBKS haven’t been able to bring their best and thus the results haven’t gone their way. Punjab Kings will next take on Mumbai Indians at Dharamshala on Thursday.
