“Rohit Sharma will miss the 3rd ODI as he will fly back to Mumbai to consult an expert,” says India coach Rahul Dravid

The Indian cricket team lost to Bangladesh in the second One Day International by five runs but everyone is appreciating the innings that Indian captain Rohit Sharma played even after dislocating a bone in his thumb. The injury happened in the first innings when Rohit Sharma was fielding on the slips and he attempted to take a catch on Mohammed Siraj’s bowling.

Indian team coach Rahul Dravid shared that Rohit will fly back to Mumbai and will consult an injury expert hence missing the third ODI of this series against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma was in so much pain that he was rushed to the hospital and he had to set it up as the dislocation was horrible but he was very determined to come back to the ground to help his team.

He came out to bat with India in trouble and smashed a brisk 51 not out in 28 balls but unfortunately India fell short by five runs in a chase of 272.

After Bangladesh wrapped up the match and the series, Rahul Dravid shared an update on Rohit Sharma’s fitness, he stated that the Indian captain will miss the third ODI and may not be available for the Test series aswell. “Rohit Sharma will miss the 3rd ODI, he will fly back to Mumbai to consult an expert. Whether he will return for the Test series or not, I am not sure. It’s too early to say,” Dravid stated after the defeat.

Injuries pile up on the Indian cricket team as Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar have also suffered major injuries and are out for the series. While Sen did not feature in the second ODI, Chahar only bowled three overs.

Coming back to Rohit Sharma and his indomitable will, the Indian skipper almost won the game despite suffering from thumb injury and being in excruciating pain. He came to bat when India were in a hapless 207-7. Sharma slammed three fours and five sixes and gave his all but ended up five runs short in the end.

Dravid lauded the effort and also discussed his injury concern at the same time as he added, “He had to go to the hospital. There was a serious dislocation in his hand. He had to get it set at the hospital, take a couple of injections and then get back to the field. Credit to him, he was very determined to have a go out and take a chance. It was amazing how close he got us,” he added.
